How Long Did It Take You To Learn And Speak German Good?
Learn German Question
I am trying to learn it, I would like to hear someone else’s experience learning German.

Mikes Answer
It depends on how much work you are prepared to put in. I would say listen to audio files in German or MP3 files. Watch German films with subtitles and buy yourself a good German course and do something everyday. The more you do the more it kicks in. It’s difficult to imagine, but if you persevere you will find yourself thinking in German and the penny will drop.
If you immerse yourself in the German language for about 3 months you will be very happy with the results.
Try the Rocket German course, its brilliant, and if you really want to speak German you need the best course.
Good luck

I started learning it at age 14 and passed my GCSE (age16 exams in the UK) at 16 with an A grade. I went on to study it to age 18. I’m now 30 and it’s a tad rusty to be honest, more through lack of practice.
You need a really good teacher and also you need the opportunity to immerse yourself in the language – read German newspapers, books, watch German films. Ideally, visit Germany and immerse yourself in the country
