In the table above you will note that only Philadelphia has a Hispanic population of less than 25% Hispanics. What is also interesting to note is that Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix are the some of the fastest growing cities in the United States. Just in sheer numbers alone in these 10 cities this accounts for over 24 million people of Hispanic origin. In addition, the Hispanic population now accounts for approximately 15% of the total population of the United States. Reason #1: Why it is important to learn how to speak Spanish? The primary language of the second largest group of people in the United States is Spanish.

The importance of learning Spanish based on the above statistics to be fairly obvious. However, we can dig further into the numbers and get an even clearer picture of why learning Spanish is so important. The Hispanic Population currently accounts for 14% of the total population, by 2020 the US Census Bureau estimates this figure to account for over 17% of the population a growth of almost 20 million individuals in a mere 12 years.

According to the United States Census Bureau the 2007 imports from Mexico were over 200 billion dollars. In addition, the trade deficit was over 74 billion dollars in 2007. The trade deficit is expected to grow over the several decades. Reason #2: Mexico is the number three trade importer to United States behind Canada and China.

Learning to speak Spanish gives current United States citizens an incredible advantage over those cannot speak Spanish. With such a large trade balance with Mexico, those who can speak Spanish will be more marketable. In addition, it is important to learn how to speak Spanish will open up better communication lines with our fellow Hispanic Americans.
